Dolly Parton, born Jan. 19, 1946 in Locust Ridge Tenn. to a family of 12 poor kids who would grew up in the same household, understood very early how to get out of the difficulties she faced by using her rich and vibrant imagination. Before she learned to write and read, she was creating her own music. Her first guitar purchase came when she was 8 and started singing at the Knoxville Tenn radio station at the age of 11. The same year, she released her first record on Gold Band Records a tiny independent label. In high school, she was able to make her mark locally but was always dreaming of a larger stage. Her move to Nashville following her graduation in 1964. Dumb Blonde was her first record to chart on Monument Records. In the year 1967, Porter Wagoner was looking for an actress to sing for his syndicated television show. Parton took the offer in 1967 signed with RCA Records in 1968 and joined the Grand Ole Opry in 1969. She resigned in 1974. at the end of Wagoner's show due to the success of her singles like Joshua Coats in Many Colors or Jolene was outstripping their joint releases. Parton recorded I Will Always love You to Wagoner after the breakup. It reached No. 1. for the first time in 1974.
