Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic and public speaking. Feminist Frequency was established by Sarkeesian. The site hosts videos which include commentary on gender representations in contemporary culture. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American blogger and media critic who has been awarded awards for her work, is an activist blogger. Feminist Frequency is a site for education that examines women's positions in the pop culture narratives It is the brainchild of Anita Sarkeesian. The site also has the executive director. As well as working to highlight the problems surrounding the targeted and sexist assaults on women and as well as other minorities, she is dedicated to breaking down stereotypes that are in the pop culture. Sarkeesian holds a York University master's in social, political and philosophical thought. Apart from being a well-known public speaker, she has given speeches at the TEDxWomen XOXO conference and the United Nations Broadband Working Group. At a young age, Sarkeesian was fascinated with gender issues as well as feminist ideas. When she was still in school, in 2009 she started her Feminist Frequency Website. In 2009, the determined young woman was slammed on the internet for her website that focused on the gender of videogames. She was not deterred by the harassment, in fact it only reinforced her desire to become feminist and media critic. Numerous awards have been given to her for her contributions to the field she contributed to. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic for several years and was the creator of Feminist Frequency. This educational non-profit explores the role of women within the popular culture stories.
